ABORIGINES!

So, I totally did a trend spot today!!!

Pop-culture fascinates me and I have recently noticed an Australian aboriginal trend.

Let's start by identifying real aboriginals. . . in Aussie flavor:
Big smile!  Proof that fat people are happier because they keep their tummies full!

But really, notice the horizontal nose stripe that heads down---very simple, but elegant!

(Awwww!) A baby!

Notice how even though the lines where the baby is painted are simple and graceful, they tend towards horizontal, almost saggy lines.

Within the lines; however, is a lot of time-consuming detail---in both of the pictures here.
This gentleman has so much detail on his face!

Again, simple patterns, but very detailed---droopy lines.
Notice also how rings are painted around his eyes, almost like a masquerade mask!!!
Now look at Kesha, from the music video of Your Love is My Drug (this picture is actually from her performance on SNL.)

Photo stolen from Doe Deere's Blogazine is next!

(I also really like the painted gloves!!! I was at a tea party where I was really wishing I had some short gloves!  Next time I'm lacking an accessory, I'll have to remember to paint it on.)

I also found a skirt (and about three skirts) with very similar patterns and colors as this girls face paint on them at Forever 21.  (I just found out that Doe Deere is actually a huge fan of them!)  As well as a skirt with the pheasant feathers!!!

While stalking Doe, I came across a fascinating article she wrote about the recent pop-trend toward Alice in Wonderland ---highly recommended!

One of the muvids Doe linked had some happening girl painted black with stripes! It's the Music Video from Tea Party by Kerli.

  1. This is awesome! Between my several Australian friends (one of whom I hung out with last night), my viewing of that Ke$ha video earlier this week, my regular checking of Doe Deere's blogazine, of course I've seen the stuff at Forever 21, and I just decided to be the Mad Hatter for Comic Con....I still hadn't noticed this trend you are citing. You have such a good eye for these connections! Good job!

  3. Yeah, I actually noticed it back when they announced the movie's premiere, because a bunch of makeup and jewelry companies made products based on it. I like the tea party look...but I like the fantastical ones! Like tattered lace and all that. Some of them get creepy though, like people really take the White Rabbit to new heights...(I have a fear of rabbits to begin with, so I'm not sure if the costumes are actually meant to be scary or if it's just me.)
