Positive:

It goes on very nicely, it comes off with makeup remover very cleanly, the color is consistent, and works well with my lashes.  It gives a very full, wispy, natural-look on my lashes that I actually really like.

Great for a natural-beauty everyday look.

Why I'm throwing it away:

It crumbles after just a few hours, and then falls under my eyes, then it smears when I try to brush it away.

I don't have time to do touchups on mascara, when there's better mascaras out there and dark circles under my eyes are just not sexy.

If you want that magical, natural, wispy volume without the crumbles, try Supreme Lash Mascara by Merle Norman.

Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner Marker by Stila $20

Positive:

**** (Four stars out of five.)

This is an awesome liquid eyeliner.  It does absolutely everything that an eyeliner should do.  It has consistent color, lasts all day, is easy to apply (Well, about as easy as any liquid liner can be.), and looks great all day.  The only reason why it gets four stars and not five, is the price.

But, to be totally an completely fair, it's lasted me for a really long time. I've had it for about a year.  (Which, I know, I probably should have thrown it away, because liquid liners expire after about six months, but . . .)

Why I'm throwing it away:

Lol. It's empty and I need to buy more.

OR

I may buy some Onyx Eyeliner by Be A Bombshell Cosmetics.  Because it is perfect eyeliner. So perfect that someone literally stole it from me. Also it is only $14. It started running out sooner than the Stila eyeliner did, but it does give a smoother line for me.

I can't decide.

Fergie Centerstage Photo Op Eyeshadow Palette in Desert Festival by Wet N' Wild

Positive:

Okay, so I'm not actually throwing it in the trash, but I'm definitely giving it away.

The shadows are actually really nice, they go on smoothly, the pigment is where it should be, the matte colors are matte, the shimmer colors are translucent, and they apply well.

Why I'm giving it away:

The palette just doesn't have my colors.

I'd like to think I'm pretty good with makeup, and I can and do make it work from time to time, but that takes a bit more effort than I'm willing to give. Besides, this would look better on someone more tan than me.

I also have other palettes with similar colors that I just like better, and go together better on me.

And I'm trying really hard to not be a hoarder.

My Eyelash Collection

I have a serious thing for false lashes.

As requested, here's my collection:

It was about $3 for these beauties. I did buy them in China though, so it was about 21 yuan.

These were really cheap, and I've been able to use them for some looks that need a lot of layered lashes, (like the Evil Orange Queen) but honestly, they are pretty low quality synthetic lashes, that just aren't worth envying.

And some more costumesque lashes:

Walmart post-Halloween clearance sale. $1 each.

The top ones would be awesome for a Cleopatra-based look.  I actually won a costume competition with the bottom set of lashes. They've got dark-purple glitter on the tips, and they were perfect for my Yzma Halloween Costume.

The top pair are really dramatic.  I used them for my Evil Orange Queen look, and for my Marie Antoinette dress-up.

The bottom spotted pink feather lashes are super fun and easy for going out when you don't want to spend a lot of time on makeup.  They were also from Walmart, and I love the volume and flexibility of the lashes.  They were really light-weight for their size, and stayed on really well with normal lash-glue.

These are probably the three lashes that I use the most in real life. The top ones are pretty dramatic, and I used them for the Starry-eyed Surprise look.

The middle ones are AWESOME, and they give smokey-eyes just the perfect amount of oomph.  I used the middle NYC lashes for my rainbowesque oil-spill makeup look.

The bottom ones really aren't that great for me, because I have small eyelids, but I used them a lot when I was younger.

And the grand total is . . . 40 pairs of falsies. (In this post.)

I have since gotten more eyelashes, and when I can, I'll update this post with them.  If I feel like it.  I have some new favorite brands, so don't let me forget.

From the Archive: Marie Antoinette Make-up

So, sometimes when I'm bored, I play dress up like a nine-year old.  Only with better dress ups.

This was something I did sometime between July-October of 2012.  Marie Antoinette-styled fun.

Everything was going wrong: the eyelashes, the bathroom lighting, my camera, my brushes, the make-up itself.

But I had fun, and thought I'd journal it here.

The photo quality is horrid--for which I apologize--so I edited the crap out of the image so you could see the colors of the eye-makeup.  So now the hair looks all . . . fluorescent.  It's really more of a burgundy red.

Speaking of hair, I used the same wig on my Hipster Ariel outfit, but just stuck socks inside to give it more volume.  Here's a picture from the top, where you can see all the earrings and jewelry I put in it, to make it purty.  In addition to the socks, I also used bobby pins to bring those ringlets forward.  Sorry about the blurry picture, but this is the only photo in which you can see the top of the wig.

(You can also see the totally sexy shoe that my man bought me back in our "we're totally not dating" days.)

In the photo below, you can how truly experimental my eyeliners were.  I used orange, lilac, green, yellow, and blue.  I also drew a fantastic mole, because it's a beauty mark, BEOTCH.

And now, I shall post this and pretend that you can't totally see my eyebrows, and crooked lines, and escapist eye-lashes.

Starry-Eyed Surprise Makeup

This look is definitely one of her more wearable looks, (she is usually super-artsy, which I LOVE) and I admired it so much, I decided to try it.  Unfortunately, I don't have any eyeshadow that was blue enough. So the blue you see here was done primarily with Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide Eye Pencil in Deviant.  Then I covered it with my brightest matte blue eyeshadow, and the black eyeshadow, both by e.l.f..  And then white eyeliner with an ice-blue shimmer eyeshadow for the inside corner of the eye.  Lightly dust with an iridescent blue glitter.

This is what I came up with.  I was doing my makeup from memory, soooo REALLY different from Klaire's.

So there's this totally great song by Paul Oakenfold from his album Bunka, called Starry-eyed surprise. It's a great song.  Watch the music video here.

It's such a great song that Coca-Cola paid a bajillion dollars to use it for the most wonderful commercial in the whole world, which you shall now watch here.

And two months after I took the pictures of the makeup I did, I was like "Huh, Tharry Eyeth." (Because when I talk to myself, I talk with a lisp.)

And the whole time I was trying to edit my mascara mistakes out of the picture (It was pretty bad, I started coughing right after I put my mascara on,) this song was running through my head.  Thus the title.

Makeup: CottonCandy

Those of you who know me well, know that I get KUHRAYZAY dreams at night.


So this one time, I had a dream that my roommate won a makeover from Doe Deere of Lime Crime Makeup.


So Doe comes over to give my dream roommate a makeover, and my roommate HAS NO IDEA WHO SHE IS.


No idea.


And Doe is trying awkwardly to make conversation with her as she's giving her a makeover in our messy room. In an effort to make my roommate talk, Doe asks "Is that your makeup on that dresser?"


And I say "No, it's actually my makeup."


Doe and I start up a conversation and have such a lovely time, that she offers to give ME a makeover, which of course, I am thrilled.  And she notices some pictures and clothes strewn about my bedroom and so we make some cotton-candy inspired eye makeup.

 We debate for a bit whether to use No She Didn't sky blue lipstick (shown on the right,) but I had to go somewhere after, so we ended up choosing Great Pink Planet instead (shown below.)


I invited Doe to stay for dinner, but she had to catch a flight back to her hometown of Los Angelos, California, and her cab was already on it's way.  The end result was lovely, a perfect look for spring.


The look featured here is what I tried to recreate from Dream Doe's makeover on me.  What a cool dream.

In short, I was totally psyched. Psyched enough to draw a happy Spongebob-esque face.

Eerie Tinkerbell Face

I love Tinkerbell, and that's how it all started.

I always do my base first, and lightly darken (Haha, oxymoron . . . ) my eyebrows with a brown pencil.

I used some black circle lenses to add extra creepiness, but those are optional for this look.

1. Pale green powder (Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Pop Hazel) on top of of stark white cream shadow.

2. Black liquid eyeliner (Stila waterproof) is thickest in the center of the lid, to give a round appearance.

3. Demi-lashes placed in the MIDDLE of the lid.  That's the key to this child-like creepiness. (I actually cut one lash in half, because the other one got lost.)

4. Top it all off with Lime Crime lipstick in Great Pink Planet. (Fantastic stuff btw!!!)  I also used Great Pink Planet as blush to match!

Copper Wedding makeup for TK

Despite how clean and simple this look appears, it took me more time to develop than any other look for someone ever.  Because this was designed to be wedding makeup for a very dear friend of mine.  She happens to be extremely pink-skinned.

So Once Upon a time, my dear friend TK asked me to do her makeup for her wedding. I was of course thrilled and excited to do so, and created a pinboard for her makeup.  The only thing she told me was "natural."

So I pulled a lot of photos of very simple makeup, pinks, liquid black liner, and colors to emphasize her baby blues and pale pink-tinted skin.

Well, after making her a contributor to the pinboard, I realized that she wanted coppers, and, and, and golds, for her eye makeup colors.

This proved to be especially challenging, because she has a very fair, pink, skin tone.  Typically coppers tend to wash out faces with her coloring. I.E. think vampire over-applying bronzer.

But I did it.  I used a cream orange, to give the coppery-appearance, and covered it with cream, pinks, and browns, to make the orange more subtle and give the 'copper' allusion without washing her fair skin out.

So this is what I did:
1. Maybelline Eyestudio Color Tattoo in 10 Fierce and Tangy (Orange) over the lid and lining the outer lower lashline.
2. Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Pop Hazel Eyes in the 7th color (shimmery cream) on the arch and inside corner of the eye and inside lower lashline.
3. Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Pop Hazel Eyes in the 6th color (coppery pink/red) blending the  unorange area with the orange.
4. e.l.f. Eyeshadow Duo #01015 7/8 in the shimmery color (warm pinkish brown) in the middle of the lid. and on the outer lower lashline.
5. e.l.f. Eyeshadow Duo #01015 7/8 in the matte color (cool matte brown) in the outside corner.
6. Blend profusely.
7. e.l.f. Eyeshadow Duo #01015 1/2 in the matte color (it looks gray next to the blue, but it's actually navy.)  Line the outer upper lashline.  This will brighten and emphasize the blue.
8. Maybelline Falsies Lash Mascara Please tell me you know where to put mascara. ;)

You're done. That was it.

I FRICKEN LOVE YOU FOR READING MY BLOG.  We don't get much company.

Making Makeup Easy: 5 Tips.

1. PRACTICE: just like anything else, the more you do something, the easier it becomes.

2. BE WASTEFUL.  For years, I was so afraid to waste makeup, I never explored with it.  I was so frugal with my makeup, that it went bad before I used it all up. (The recommended life of mascara is 3 months. And the longest lasting powder eye-shadows should be thrown away after 3 years.) I wish I had started having fun sooner.

3. MAKE MISTAKES. Being afraid of making mistakes is step #1 to making them. Plan on making mistakes and starting over.  I always play makeup at night before I wash my face to go to bed.

4.  BE TERRIFYING. If you’re playing with makeup, and you suddenly make an irreparable mistake, don’t baptize your face right away.  Make yourself scary, villainous, ugly, monstrous, creepy! It’s fun! And besides, trying to be pretty all the time isn’t as fun.

5. PLAY!!! Don’t call it practicing makeup, call it playing with makeup. Because that’s what it is.  That’s what keeps it fun.

Ultimately, the only thing that makes anything easier is practice, and the only thing that makes practice meaningful is enjoying it.  That’s why these are more tips for enjoying it.  Try something crazy! Even if you don’t wear it out, that’s fine. Just send me a picture before you wash it off, Kay?

Rainbowesque Oilspill Makeup for Crosby

AS SEEN ON MAKEUPBEE'S FACEBOOK: (I'm obviously thrilled, in case you couldn't tell.)

So this one time, Crosby tagged me in a picture of makeup on Pinterest, and so I recreated the look, and wore it to church SPECIFICALLY to show her.  Only, she wasn't there, and everyone wondered why I wore such heavy makeup to church.  The End

I did brighten the colors (they got washed out by the flash,) and try to hide a certain zit in the middle of my forehead.  These photos are otherwise untouched, i.e. those are my real eyes. Without contacts.
